Description
The hands and crown of this spectacular Claddagh ring are encrusted with scintillating diamonds, and a heart-shaped emerald resonates from the center. The 14 karat white gold band, in its straight-edged simplicity, sets forth the luxury of the Claddagh symbol even more brilliantly. Lovingly handcrafted by ShanOre, this ring has been hallmarked in the Dublin Assay Office. It also pairs with a matching fitted wedding band (14L69) inlaid with diamonds.
The Claddagh Legend
Over time, the Claddagh ring has evolved into an Irish icon, finding particular popularity toward the end of the 20th century. The hands suggest friendship; the heart, love; and the crown, fidelity. A romantic myth of the 1600s relays the story of a man named Richard Joyce from Galway, Ireland, who was kidnapped on his way to the West Indian slave plantations and held captive by a goldsmith. Joyce grew into a master craftsman under this man's tutelage. When Joyce was finally released, he reunited with his long-time love in Galway, giving her what most believe to be the very first Claddagh ring. In current-day Ireland, many couples wear these rings to denote their marriage.
A Perfect Promise
The man who proposes to his beloved with this ring sees her as a gem in his life, deserving of only the most exquisite of gifts and promises. He is proud to hand over his tender heart for her keeping. The deep green of the emerald stands for an innocent love that the troubles of the outside world will never compromise. The diamonds, flashing with the slightest of the wearer's movements, broadcast the magical quality of that love.
